Retrospective - The rich cinematic works of Francien Van Everdingen, artist of Noord Brabants’ descent, can be seen as the best kept secret of the Netherlands! Her work is extraordinarily precise, esthetical, warm and at the same time light and full of wit. Over the last 13 years, Francien van Everdingen made 20 short movies, each between 6 and 20 minutes long and each a true gem! Whoever sees them, immediately falls for them. But hardly anyone has ever been able to see them. PlazaPlus offers you the opportunity to do so with this arranged program showcasing her rich cinematic works. Talk: Claartje Opdam (Filmbank).
Regie: Francien van Everdingen
Francien van Everdingen is one of just a few people to work with an optical printer, a rare, large and expensive machine from the beginning of the 20th century. The result? Almost surreal, wonderful imagery. How diverse the movies may be in terms of choice of subject or technique, they share a universe entirely their own. A universe Francien van Everdingen seems to hold
the patent for.The titles of her films vary from ‘Bloemschikken’(Arranging flowers) with the description ‘horror with flowers’ to ‘Nook & Cranny’, described as “a moving painting of an interior in which the furniture wants to break out of the egg like a chicken, or a mouse slipping away”.
